About Me

After spending my entire childhood geared toward being a writer, I immediately fell in love with astronomy in an introductory class at Agnes Scott College. It wasn't long before I decided to pursue a dual major in both astrophysics and writing, although I was uncertain about the best career path. An internship at Sky & Telescope magazine showed me that writing about astronomy was my ideal pursuit, and it has remained my focus throughout my professional career.

In 2011, I began writing for Space.com. My portfolio swiftly expanded to include Astrobiology, Sky & Telescope, and Astronomy magazines (beyond that initial internship!). In the decade since I began my freelancing career, I have expanded my clientele and continue to seek out new challenges.

I am particularly interested in planetary science and space missions but really, if it involves space, I'm probably interested. Early in my career I struggled to decide whether to pursue a phD, go into teaching, or become a science journalist. I'm pretty sure I have chosen the best option, because I love the fact that I am constantly learning about new things. I can spend a day reading about black holes, writing about Pluto, and interviewing about pulsars.

In addition to a love for astronomy, I also have four children, three cats, and two rabbits. Oh, and a (relatively) new husband and last name - you have probably seen me in the past published as Nola Taylor Redd. Together, we live in a chaotic house outside of Atlanta, Georgia.

This is, I think, my very first selfie, taken in one of the mirrors that would later fly on the James Webb Space Telescope
At NASA Johnson Space Center, sitting at the controls once manned - literally - by Apollo crews.

Did I mention that I love Saturn's moon Enceladus?
